greenland's glaciers are melting at twice the rate previously believed

new infectious diseases are emerging at an exceptional rate

the world's oceans are rapidly becoming more acidic - to the point where they might cause a mass extinction of marine life

know how to bury your dead when the avian flu pandemic hits

we're all going to die together

caring for a terminally ill partner can be so draining it kills you

but on a cheerier note, it's humans that are making wildlife sick

There will not be any sort of avian flu pandemic or any flu pandemic in the industrialized world.

Re: That's nice to know

I actually had a letter published two years ago in a major world newspaper about how there wouldnt be a flu pandemic that year even though flu vaccines were running critically low.

Each year the government tries to scare you into believing you are going to die. They want you to believe that you need them to make you save.

Three years ago it was Mad Cow. No American has ever gotten sick because of Mad Cow.

Two years ago it was influenza. There was no pandemic or epidemic.

One year ago it was SARS.

The past year it has been the AVIAN FLU OHS NOS!

Its a culture of fear that you're buying into if you believe you will ever be victim of a flu pandemic or terrorism.

Use common sense. Look at the numbers. The probability is so low that I am insulted that other people are actually out there who BELIEVE they run the risk of being hurt/killed by any of these so called "potential pandemics."

Every minute another sucker is born. Every year there is a different scare.

I thought "They whole world is stupid" had a certain kind of ghetto cool.

But, you know, I don't have minions yet so WTF would I know?

"caring for a terminally ill partner can be so draining it kills you"

This is not doomy. What's the alternative?
"Having an ill partner makes you into a selfish bastard that goes out to Bingo every night and leaves your spouse alone in unrine soaked bed. But that's OK couse you'll live 'til 90 until you kids ignore your dementia and you burn yourself alive making toast"

Re: "caring for a terminally ill partner can be so draining it kills you"

well, it's doomy in the sense that two people die, instead of just one.

it's totally obvious that if it's someone you care deeply about, then ripping yourself away and running away is never an option. It's one of life's tough ones, no question.

.. I was only being semi-serious ;)

Sorry about the typos in the previous comment; the comment box would not let me move my cursor around and edit. For some reason it matters that random strangers don't think me illiterate.

amusingly, despite being something of a (spelling, at least) grammar nazi myself, I didn't even notice.

of course, once you mentioned it... :)
