what about if it is demonstrably another distribution, eg, normal? wouldn't that preclude it being a power law distribution? without altering the measuring range, can one set of data belong to two mutually exclusive distributions?

and yes, power laws kick ass. I'm a big fan. (as I write this I think "and a big geek" but hey *grin*)
