Different paradigms at opposite ends of the scale.

The problem with the measurement by participation thing is that it fails to take into account individual choice and the reasons for that individual choice.

I know that life would be easier for policy makers if we were androgynous and asexual (they'd love me oh yes they would), but we aren't. And assuming that providing equal opportunities will bring *insert minority here* flocking in to those fields is fallacious. Sadly for the policy makers again.

Lots of women leave bridge clubs because of the attitudes of the old biddies who run them too.

Perhaps a measure other than participation would be more likely to field an accurate result?
